Madonna has revealed that her new Greatest Hits album is called Celebration. The career-spanning compilation, which will be available in both single disc and two-CD versions, will be released in the UK on September 28. A DVD featuring the singer’s most popular videos will be made available on the same day. It will be preceded by a single, also called ‘Celebration’, which will receive its first radio play on August 3. Produced by Madonna and Paul Oakenfold, ‘Celebration’ is one of two new songs on the album.

Madonna recently shot the accompanying video in Milan with longtime collaborator Jonas Akerlund. In addition to the new songs, four classic Madonna hits have been confirmed for the album’s tracklisting: ‘Everybody’, ‘Express Yourself’, ‘Vogue’ and ‘4 Minutes’. The Celebration album cover – pictured above right – has been designed by Mr. Brainwash, an LA-based street artist. Madonna has notched up 62 UK top ten hits since making her chart debut in 1984, 13 of which have reached number one.

She has released two previous hits compilations, 1990’s The Immaculate Collection and 2001’s GHV2.

A pulled hamstring during a 1999 triathlon sidelined Fahner-Vihtelic, but after 10 years away from the intense mental and physical activity, Fahner-Vihtelic signed up for the July 5 Buffalo Triathlon. Encouraged with his effort, he registered for his first NYC Triathlon, which is expected to draw 3,400 athletes from 50 states and 20 countries to Manhattan. But Fahner-Vihtelic’s actions reach beyond triathlons.

In 2005 he started working with wounded soldiers just back from Iraq, assisting these veterans at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Many of the veterans, most in their early to late 20s, have no idea what sports are available to them, Fahner-Vihtelic said, so he counsels them on becoming active.

“People tend to go through this phase where, after becoming disabled, they wonder ‘why me?’” said Fahner-Vihtelic, 61, who with his wife, Mary, has two daughters, Emily, 28, and Alexandra, 26. “The whole idea is to get over that and deal with the fact that your body has changed dramatically and permanently. It’s a big mental process, but I tell these veterans they just need to attack, go after their dreams and succeed.” In preparation for the NYC event, Fahner-Vihtelic has been working out at least five times a week and enlisted a strength coach and a personal trainer to improve his performances.

Besides being a mentally challenging activity, as an amputee Fahner-Vihtelic needs to coordinate with an assistant during the race to ensure his prosthetic leg is waiting for him once he completes the swim. “I got back into triathlons for my own personal health and well-being,” said Fahner-Vihtelic, who hopes to compete in a biathlon this winter. “I feel good about myself when I’m competing; I’ve won national and world championships, everything that anyone can do in this sport. So now all I want is to see how well I can do and inspire others to take on a healthy, active lifestyle.

VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Pope Benedict XVI praised the late Cardinal Jean Margeot for his dedicated promotion of the family. Cardinal Margeot, who was the retired bishop of Port Louis, Mauritius, died July 17 at the age of 93. His death leaves the College of Cardinals with 185 members, 113 of whom are under age 80 and therefore eligible to vote in a conclave.

In a telegram of condolence sent July 17, Pope Benedict expressed his sadness over the cardinal’s death and called him a “passionate pastor who dedicated his whole life to the Mauritian people.” The late cardinal was known for his commitment to evangelization and for being “at the service of defending and promoting the family,” said the pope. He led a Catholic renewal on the tiny island-state in the Indian Ocean while carefully maintaining good relations with his Hindu and Muslim fellow citizens.

Aware that the Hindu majority opposed open conversions, he said he sought to evangelize through example and by making Christian teaching more widely known. About half of Mauritians are Hindus with an Indian background, some 16 percent are Muslim and nearly 24 percent are Catholic. The late cardinal’s annual Lenten pastoral letter and Pentecost homily usually made the headlines of the national secular press, and his positions on controversial issues were often lead stories on the country’s radio and television stations.

He urged Catholics to be concerned with prayer, liturgy and charitable service. He lamented the erosion of traditional family values, the legalization of abortion and sterilization in the region, and what he saw as the International Monetary Fund’s practice of tying economic aid to support for birth-control programs. During a 1988 meeting of world bishops at the Vatican, the cardinal spoke highly of his diocese’s natural family planning program, which he said was one of the most effective in the world. He said the church was fighting to protect the dignity and health of women, especially those who are pressured to take birth control pills, sterilized under government programs, forced to undergo the trauma of abortions, or who are badgered by husbands not to get pregnant. Jean Margeot was born Feb. 3, 1916, in Quatre-Bornes, Mauritius. He was ordained a priest Dec. 17, 1938, and ordained a bishop May 4, 1969.

As bishop of Port Louis, he was extremely active in the formation of the clergy, youths and catechists. He also provided spiritual guidance to the Chinese and Indian communities within the diocesan territory and was very active in the fight against drugs. He served as the first president of the Southwest Indian Ocean bishops’ conference, which includes Madagascar, Reunion, Seychelles, Comores and Mauritius. WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) — The trial of the DC mother accused of killing her four daughters is now officially underway. Attorneys for Banita Jacks had tried to convince a judge not to allow an eight hour interrogation tape into evidence. After two days of listening to them, Judge Frederick Weisberg denied the motion and the opening arguments were heard. Defense Attorney Llloyd Nolan says there is no physical evidence, and no scientific evidence that shows Banita Jacks killed her children in their rowhouse on 6th Street in Southeast. They only have stories from witnesses who didn’t see anything.

But prosecutor Deborah Sines says the bodies of the four little girls will speak for them. Four different medical experts will lay out a timelines of the killings, which prosecutors says started with Brittany. Jacks had claimed she was the last to die. Prosecutor Sines says they’ll show that Brittany was last seen alive in April of 2007, after her boyfriend came to visit, which angered Jacks.

Neighbors heard them argue that night and Brittany was never seen again. Soon after, neighbors report a horrible smell, one they say was the scent of death. One by one, the three other little girls disappeared too. Their bodies were discovered by Marshals coming to evict Jacks.

It’s a sight they say they’ll never forget. Sines says one told her Brittany was so decomposed, it was as if she was melting into the floor. While her girls were upstairs rotting, Sines says the evidence will show Jacks asked neighbors for food for herself, for cigarettes, never for help for the girls.

Reports say the initial video posting made no direct reference to Erin Andrews being that woman, but her attorney later confirmed it. “While alone in the privacy of her hotel room, Erin Andrews was surreptitiously videotaped without her knowledge or consent,” Andrews’ attorney, Marshall B. Grossman, said in a statement via PR Newswire. “She was the victim of a crime and is taking action to protect herself and help ensure that others are not similarly violated in the future.

Although the perpetrator or perpetrators of this criminal act have not yet been identified, when they are identified she intends to bring both civil and criminal charges against them and against anyone who has published the material. Eddie Adams made me weep long before I knew his name. With his camera he caught the faces of the ; the chilling execution of a handcuffed prisoner on a Saigon street caught in a split-second just as the bullet slammed against the helpless man’s head is the one that would change Adams’ life and the war along with it. Titled “Saigon Execution,” the 1968 photo would win him , but over the years much more of Adams’ work would move, shock, uplift, unite and sadden us, as we discover in Cooper’s love letter of a documentary, “An Unlikely Weapon.” Just about everyone starts smiling as they talk about Adams, a sardonic old soul even in his early years.

And Adams on camera doesn’t disappoint. He wears disdain like armor. His assessment of the Pulitzer photo? Badly composed, bad lighting.

He shrugs, he swears, he shakes his head in disgust. Yet you feel the caring behind the cursing. What his contemporaries saw was an artist’s eye.
