Pregnant Reunion. CNS STORY: Pope praises work by late cardinal of Mauritius to promote the family

VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Pope Benedict XVI praised the late Cardinal Jean Margeot for his dedicated promotion of the family. Cardinal Margeot, who was the retired bishop of Port Louis, Mauritius, died July 17 at the age of 93. His death leaves the College of Cardinals with 185 members, 113 of whom are under age 80 and therefore eligible to vote in a conclave.

In a telegram of condolence sent July 17, Pope Benedict expressed his sadness over the cardinal’s death and called him a “passionate pastor who dedicated his whole life to the Mauritian people.” The late cardinal was known for his commitment to evangelization and for being “at the service of defending and promoting the family,” said the pope. He led a Catholic renewal on the tiny island-state in the Indian Ocean while carefully maintaining good relations with his Hindu and Muslim fellow citizens.

Netflix. If you set up strategies for monetizing online video or video in general, and you satisfy this group,

JULY 7 | DIGITAL: American consumers with broadband Internet service download 14 billion movies and videos a year, but just a fraction of those, 15%, are legally purchased, according to a new report, “,” from research firm In-Stat, a sister company to VB. The majority of those films are likely downloaded and shared through peer-to-peer online sites by a small subset of broadband households. But rather than go after those households with lawsuits, treat them as criminals or lobby legislators for more copyright protection, In-Stat said studios could instead convert them into legal purchasers by making it easier for them and other consumers to watch movies when and where they want.

“The long-term evolution of this space is pretty well agreed upon that people will ultimately get the content they want on the screen of choice where they want and when they want it,” principal analyst Keith Nissen said. “It’s a question of how do you get there.” Nissen argues that the best way is to use Digital Rights Management technology to enable consumers to watch content in more ways on more devices, rather than using it to prevent consumers from making backups or transferring content to devices.

Maya Angelou. Jackson enthralls his final audience

Some 20,000 people gathered inside the Staples Center on Tuesday for a somber, spiritual ceremony, watched by untold millions more around the world as they celebrated a man whose immense talents almost drowned beneath the spectacle of his life and fame. A star-studded lineup of performers closely linked to Jackson’s life and music reached back for the essence of the man. They remembered Jackson as an unparalleled singer, dancer and humanitarian whose music united people of all backgrounds. “Don’t focus on the scars, focus on the journey,” said the Rev. Al Sharpton, whose fiery eulogy was an emotional high point of the service.

“Every time he got knocked down, he got back up,” Sharpton said, and the applauding crowd again jumped to its feet. Sharpton rode the moment, building to a crescendo. “There wasn’t nothing strange about your daddy.

Pictures Sahel Kazemi. Brief romance ends tragically

As her birthday approached in May, Abdi said, Kazemi wanted the family to visit Nashville. “Don’t buy me any gifts, just come and spend my birthday with me,” she told Abdi and her sister. Abdi said they met and partied with McNair at local clubs.

Still, the family was hoping she’d reconsider moving back to Florida. The family was worried about the rapid relationship and the extravagance that came with it. “She was in a Bentley and I don’t think it was right because there are jealous people,” Abdi said. “People were telling her that they didn’t have anyone to pay their bills or buy them things.” Kazemi first came to Nashville nearly four years ago with her then-boyfriend, Keith Norfleet.

Characters. Film producer Lawrence Kasanoff – responsible for the Mortal Kombat movies – has filed a lawsuit in order to retain the intellectual property.

By Bankrupt publisher Midway is facing legal action over the film rights to the Mortal Kombat franchise. Film producer Lawrence Kasanoff - responsible for the Mortal Kombat movies – has filed a lawsuit in order to retain the intellectual property rights to adapt the series for film and television should Midway be sold. Warner Bros is the forerunner to purchase the company after tabling a $33 million (£20 million) bid earlier this year, an agreement which includes the Mortal Kombat licence. The lawsuit states that no legislation is in place to protect Kasanoff’s rights to the series, which could result in their unjust loss in the event of a Midway buyout.

The producer claims that he is responsible for taking Mortal Kombat out of the arcades and making its characters the household names that they are today.

Finals Game Live. And he’s the kind of player that looks to do the little things, or as he put it, connect the dots.

OAKLAND–If Austin Daye is available for the Kings to select with the 23rd pick, someone might have lied to him. He’d like a guarantee from a team that it would select him. Daye said he’s heard he’ll fall between 9-17. The lanky small forward from Gonzaga hasn’t hired an agent. Daye said he’s “pretty dedicated to staying in” the draft with this caveat.

“I really don’t want to fall into the 20s,” Daye said after his workout Tuesday at the Golden State Warriors practice facility. “If that happens I’m probably going to go back to school, if that’s what they’re saying.” Daye spent two seasons at Gonzaga. At 6-10, 192 pounds, Daye sees himself creating matchup problems as a small forward or even a power forward like Rashard Lewis. Daye just doesn’t want to wait to be selected after the top-20 picks to show he can do that, even if it might mean going to a better team.

Normal. ‘Billy Elliot’ snags 10 Tonys

Angela Lansbury received her fifth Tony, this time for her performance as dotty medium Madame Arcati in a revival of Noel Coward’s “Blithe Spirit.” Her win in the featured-actress category tied the record for acting prizes held by Julie Harris, who has five plus a special lifetime-achievement award given in 2002. Who would have thought?” the 83-year-old Miss Lansbury began, drowned out by a standing ovation. “Who knew that @ this time in my life that I should be presented with this lovely, lovely award. I feel deeply grateful.

” An emotional Liza Minnelli accepted the prize for special theatrical event for her show “Liza’s at the Palace.” “This is exquisite,” Miss Minnelli said, asking for a list of people to thank because she didn’t think she was going to win. “Lastly, I want to thank my parents and the greatest gift they ever gave me, Kay Thompson,” her godmother. Miss Minnelli re-created part of Ms. Thompson’s club act as part of her Palace entertainment.
