Play Play. UFC 100 Lesnar VS Mir: Analysis

Considering the long list of people who ARE bonifide “one-punch-knockout” specialists who have tried and FAILED to knock out Nog, I don’t think you can count that against Mir. Not even a little bit. The fact that he did enough damage via striking to end the fight is absolutely amazing. Mir’s standup vs Nogueria was a pleasant surprise to pretty much everyone.

It is noteworthy that Mir started out in Kempo Karate, so he’s got a decent background in striking. He’s pretty much never showcased his striking in his entire MMA career, other than the Nogueria fight. The trouble with Nogueria is that he’s not a good striker, so we don’t know what Mir’s standup looks like against someone who is more specialized in striking.

ufc 100 play by play

Mir has shown that he can hit a lot harder than anyone thought. Lesnar hits harder though, and I think he’ll take a punch/kick better than Mir. Knocking out Nog demonstrates that Mir might very well be one of the top 5 most powerful strikers in the Heavyweight division, but it leaves a lot of unanswered questions as well.
