Janine Sligar. Prison employee sentenced to prison for having sex with inmate

Janine Sligar, 47, of Wray, Colorado, was sentenced Thursday for sexual abuse of a ward. After serving her sentence, she will serve five years of supervised release and must register as a sex offender, spokesman Jeff Dorschner said in a news release. Sligar, who must surrender to a facility designated by the Bureau of Prisons on March 2, did not respond to a telephone call to her home for comment.

She was indicted in July by a federal grand jury in Denver and pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in October. According to the plea agreement, Sligar, a 14-year veteran, said she and inmate Eric McClain met in February 2007, when he was assigned to clean her office.

Alexis Cohen. That’s a Wrap for Idol Auditions: Good PR, Pretty NYCe Voices

Two things hates: Overuse of the word please and humans dressed as iPods. Both were pet peeves he encountered as American Idol touched down in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on tonight’s episode, which also featured collapsing window screens, a wannabe nudist and the return of season-seven auditioner Alexis Cohen (“Take it, take it, take it!” she screamed into the camera last year, brandishing both middle fingers.) Well, Cohen still couldn’t sing-she was even worse than last year, the judges determined-and, sure enough, out came her twin birds and the potty mouth when Cowell told her to take a hike. The aspiring nudist, however, Simon rather liked.

Overall, the judges handed out nine tickets to Hollywood in Puerto Rico and a whopping 26 in New York, definitely one of the more diverse talent pools they ran into this season. Promising sounds emanated from both locales, with us coming away kinda excited about raspy rocker girl Jackie Tohn, who reminded us of but sounds more versatile than Amanda Overmyer; Jorge Nuñez, whom said had the power of ; and Ashley Hollister, Kenny Hoffpauer and Kendall Beard, none of whom had more than 30 seconds of screen time but who impressed just the same. So at last, it’s on to Hollywood Week, where the going gets tough and the contestants we had the highest hopes for crash and burn when asked to form mini girl and boy groups with their peers.

School Closings. Winter weather pelts region; some utilities fear outages

HAMILTON – The second round of a winter weather one-two punch already has brought power outages, school closings, wrecks and treacherous travel across the region. Butler and Warren counties were under a Level 1 snow emergency late Tuesday, Jan. 27, but that could change today as the National Weather Service in Wilmington predicted ice and up to 3 inches of snow and sleet overnight. And, the weather service said, “Another 1 to 3 inches of snow can be expected (today),” with a total 8 to 12 inches in accumulation.

With the region under a winter storm warning, utility company officials said Tuesday they are watching for icy power lines. “Our No. 1 concern is ice,” said Johnna Reeder of Duke Energy. “If we see a quarter of an inch we’ll start seeing problems with distribution lines and problems with tree limbs down.

Superbowl Time. NFL: Cardinals savor their moment of arrival

The pilot of their airplane stuck a team flag out the cockpit window as the Arizona Cardinals landed in a place few could have imagined. Ever. A team whose fans haven’t touched ground since the start of a stunning postseason run in early January, arrived in the Super Bowl city Monday. With many players videotaping the proceedings — the walk across the tarmac, the bus ride to the team hotel, the first onslaught of media — it was clear that just being here meant something to a franchise long considered an NFL doormat.

“It’s a great moment,” said safety Adrian Wilson , the longest-tenured Cardinal. “To be here, to go through all the teams, to go through all the players, it’s big for the whole organization. It’s big for the players who are here right now. “You never know the type of team you have and you never know the circumstances.

Aint Happy Days. Sundance EXCL: Antoine Fuqua’s Finest

One of the filmmakers you might not expect to see at the is Antoine Fuqua, who cut his teeth on studio movies over the last ten years, the most memorable one being Training Day, a tough L.A. police story which earned Denzel Washington an Oscar and Ethan Hawke his own nomination. Fuqua brought his new police drama , made outside of the studio system, to this year’s festival looking for distribution and reactions from Sundance’s legendary movie-loving audiences.

Besides moving to the East Coast, this is a very different movie in that it explores the day-to-day lives of three police officers in different stages of their careers, pulling varying duties in the war against drugs and crime in Brooklyn. Richard Gere plays Eddie, a 20-year vet who is just a week away from retirement, who turns to alcohol and a prostitute named Chantel, to get him through what has been an unfulfilling career as a police officer. Don Cheadle is Tango, who has been working undercover in the thick of drugdealers and killers, trying to maintain that cover while desperately wanting to get away from all the death and violence. Brooklyn’s Finest also reunites Fuqua with Ethan Hawke, who plays Sal, a narcotics officer trying to make ends meet to support his family, who gets into a lot of bad situations as he tries to get what he thinks he deserves.

Primetime Episode. UFC 93, Affliction: Day Of Reckoning, UFC 94

Yeah man. I’m actually one of the guys who likes Machida. Obviously I’m a huge BJ fan, and BJ is one of the more brash fighters out there. But I like Machida cuz the dude is just an enigma. He’s so calm, never talks, never gets rattled, and just goes in there and whoops ass.

I just get the feeling he can finish fights any time he wants. Did you see the first round against Tito? The second Tito started taunting him, Machida took him down, crucified him and started pounding away. Luckily Tito was saved by the bell.

Jill Biden Inaugural Gown. Michelle Obama shines in Isabel Toledo

WASHINGTON (AP) – First lady Michelle Obama wore a sparkling yellow sheath dress with matching coat by Cuban-born American designer Isabel Toledo for the inauguration of her husband, a choice many applauded as a cheerful message of hope and a vote for the American fashion industry. In some light, the embellished ensemble took on a pale greenish cast, coordinating nicely with green gloves from J. Crew and Jimmy Choo green patent pumps.

President Barack Obama wore a red tie and white shirt with his suit, topped with an overcoat adorned with an American flag pin. Their daughters were style icons in their own right, with 10-year-old Malia in a double-breasted periwinkle-blue coat with a blue-ribbon bow at the waist, and Sasha, 7, in a pink coat with orange scarf and satin belt, a coral-colored dress peeking out at the hem. Their coats were from Crewcuts by J. Crew.
